Faf Du Plessis probably for the first time is finding himself on the side-lines in the Indian Premier League.
Since the time Du Plessis started featuring in the IPL, he had been in the playing XI most of the time whenever he was available, be it at his previous franchise Chennai Super Kings or at the current one Rising Pune Super Giant.
But, after a change in leadership at RPS this season, the stylish right hander has lost his place in the XI.
Steve Smith, the new skipper who has taken over has not shown as much faith in Du Plessis as the previous skipper MS Dhoni used to show.
Smith has been rather interested in picking those overseas players who can offer something with the ball.
In the first game, Smith picked two overseas bowlers and an all-rounder, while, in the second game, he dropped a bowler for another all-rounder, but, he didn’t opt for a specialist batsman in the form of Du Plessis.
Maybe Smith reckons that the bowling of his team is weaker in comparison to batting and that’s why he needs the services of the overseas players more with the ball than the bat, but, Du Plessis is still too good a player not to be included in the XI.
Not only is he a batsman oozing class, he is a phenomenal fielder as well and has taken some freak catches in the IPL before and also being an international captain himself, he can provide those extra inputs to Smith which can be very useful.
Going forward in the tournament, one would like Smith to find a spot for Du Plessis because it would be a shame not to use a player of that calibre in the tournament.
