Faf Du Plessis probably for the first time is finding himself on the side-lines in the Indian Premier League.
Since the time Du Plessis started featuring in the IPL, he had been in the playing XI most of the time whenever he was available, be it at his previous franchise Chennai Super Kings or at the current one Rising Pune Super Giant.
But, after a change in leadership at RPS this season, the stylish right hander has lost his place in the XI.
Steve Smith, the new skipper who has taken over has not shown as much faith in Du Plessis as the previous skipper MS Dhoni used to show.
Smith has been rather interested in picking those overseas players who can offer something with the ball. (more…)

The 2017 IPL season is set to see an unprecedented eight English players feature in the league.
This is double of the number of players that played in the tournament last year.
Jason Roy, Chris Jordan, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Chris Woakes, Sam Billings and Tymal Mills have registered to take part. Mills is set to play just T20 cricket but the eight are expected to be included in England’s Champions Trophyplans.
Morgan believes that the tournament will help players in preparation for the tournament.
“It’s only pressure for the first two weeks, while you’re there. Then, that’s it. You get over it. No big deal. You’re still trying to get the same result out of what you’ve been doing as a kid. The price tag is there because that’s your market value.
“Guys are paid a lot of money because they’re worth it. It becomes a shock for everyone at home because we haven’t been exposed enough to it. I think if the exposure to the IPL at home had been the same from the start until now, as opposed to being just over the last two years, people wouldn’t be as shocked about it,” Morgan said, speaking of proposed changes to English cricket.
Morgan said the changes would not spoil county cricket. He said it was not a gamble as other countries had successfully implemented it. (more…)
The fourth Test game which saw India vs. England go head on has come and gone with India thrashing England, and Virat Kohli, India’s Test Captain, carting away his third double century for the 2016-17 season.
Not just that, the game has also left a lot of tongues wagging, especially in the direction of Alastair Cook, who has been accused of spoiling the game and letting India have the dominance due to his poor captaincy and a few wrong decisions.
The first criticism came in the form of a tweet from Kevin Pietersen, former England captain who took to the popular social media network, Twitter to express his unhappiness with the choices Cook had made.
“Watching #INDvENG all morning. Cook’s captaincy?”
That wasn’t all as he sent in another one a few minutes later, taking a dig at the captain, (more…)
Trevor Bayliss doesn’t think a player should ever barge into the box of TV ump to question him regardless of the fairness of any particular call made by him and so, Alex Hales can’t be defended for doing that.
Bayliss however denies that act of Hales can cause the ouster of the Nottinghamshire player from the national set up. The world famous coach who is from the rival nation Australia says if Hales is dismissed from the side, it would only be because he hasn’t done justice to himself as a test batsman. Nothing other than his runs would be the talking point in that regard.
Hales’ act during the London match was brought into the notice of the referee who summoned the right handed batter and slapped him a fine and then did the same to the pace man Stuart Broad too who on a social site seemed to be taking the side of his county colleague by suggesting through one of his remarks that the footages with so much blurriness couldn’t be taken as a base for a catch to be considered legal. Kevin Pietersen was bought by the new IPL franchise, the Rising Pune Super Giants in the recent players’ auction.
The Super Giants did not have to spend much for the audacious English batsman as they managed to seal his services for just five hundred thousand Dollars.
Pietersen had fetched an amount three times more than this in the auction a couple of years ago, but, as he has stopped playing international Cricket and is getting a bit older too, his brand value has decreased.
Pietersen has although been in superb nick for the last 3-4 months and has played a number of impact knocks in different Leagues for different Clubs. But, playing international Cricket is something which gives a player the maximum exposure and that’s what the big Englishman is away from at the moment.
Pietersen is a player who has got the game for the power-play. He has opened in limited-over Cricket with distinction in the past. So, Pune might think of slotting him right at the top of the order.
Although his preferred batting position in the other leagues is no. 3 as that is the position where he feels the most comfortable at and has scored the most number of runs at as far as Twenty 20 Cricket is concerned. But, he would not mind opening the batting either if asked to do so as in that case he would get a lot of deliveries to pace his innings at his own speed.
The Rising Pune Super Giants will be skippered by the Indian limited-over captain MS Dhoni. (more…)
